I love a Series of Unfortunate Events! Have you read the new series? For adventure, I would suggest the Percy Jackson & the Olympians by Rick Riordan.
What about reding some Alfred Hitchcock or Sherlock Holmes for a bit of a challenge or maybe this great series of books called Ugenia Lavender.
