I have some friends who are homeschooled who I know really well, and they are probably some of the kindest, smartest people I know.
Yes, I bet they are! Homeschooled kids generally get a bad rap because people think they don’t “socialise” whatever that is supposed to mean! Of course, homeschooled kids might not have so many friends as kids who go to school, but they’re still very friendly, and they have (or at least I have) a very strong bond with their families! I’m pro-homeschooling all the way!
Mmm, yes, all the homeschooled kids I know have a VERY strong bone with their families! I’ve always wanted to be homeschooled- you just get more time to do stuff, and more flexibility with what you learn!
Exactly!! I really love doing history, maths, languages, and coding, so I do a lot on those topics, but if I was in school, I’d end up doing a bunch of other topics that I don’t much like, such as physics!
Fun! Yes, I enjoy maths, chemistry, drama and food tech (cooking) but I have to do all the subjects I don’t like a lot as well, which is sad!
Another thing that’s really good about being homeschooled is that you don’t have to go on holiday during the school holidays! You can get some pretty decent prices for off-peak trips! AND you can get the afternoon off learning sometimes, if you’re going on a shopping trip! :-D
Ooh nice. Yes that would be lovely getting to go on holiday when you’re basically the only one there. When we go on holidays there’s always about a million other tourists in the same place lol!!!
Yeah, it’s great!!! Honestly, I really can’t imagine ever going to school. I think I’d feel a bit lonely, because of missing my family, and a little trapped! (I get claustrophobic easily!)

Yes school can be pretty awful sometimes. I mean, I’m not one of those people who’s always like, ‘Urgh I hate school it’s such a waste of time,’ but I also think school could definitely be better. We don’t really get a lot of time for reading as well- there’s only 1 reading lesson every 2 weeks!
I mean, Yes, school’s not a complete waste of time, (you do learn a lot of things!) but it’s just really not for me! One thing that I’d really hate is having to wear the same uniform as everyone else, and not being able to wear what I like to wear! That would be awful!
You only get ONE reading lesson per TWO weeks? How would I survive?! And do you get to choose which book to read, or does the teacher tell you which one to read?
Yes, uniform is definitely one of the things I enjoy less about school, especially secondary school where there’s higher collars, and ties.
And I know it is pretty awful, but thankfully I get lots of time at home. And the higher sets (So me) get to pick their own books, but for some reason they think it better that lower sets don’t. Don’t ask why, I don’t understand either!
Ugh, ties?? I hate ties so much!! I am now extremely glad I don’t go to school!
That’s good, at least you can pick your own book! :-) That’s kind of odd, do the teachers just think that littler kids will pick board books, or something? Weird!

And yes, I don’t know what the teachers think they will pick. Surely you will enjoy reading more if you read the sort of books you like?!? Who knows. I’m glad I can choose my own books, anyway.

I know, totally! Everyone has a different taste in literature, and reading’s more fun if you can read what you like to read!

Yes, totally! For example, I have lots of good friends who love manga and comic books, but I definitely prefer longer, older, adventure books! I just find comics really hard to read.
Personally, I think you shouldn’t make kids wear ties! You can choose to wear them later on in life, for formal events, and work, or things like that, but for school? I just don’t see the point!
Me too! I love old adventure stories, or really any old stories in general, as they really have more depth than any comics I know of! And yes, I also find comics hard to understand sometimes! :-P
Yes, older stories are SO the best! So many of my friends say they hate long books because they take too long, or have strange words, but for me that’s what makes it interesting! I think they’re so much more original, and deep.

Well, I’ve never really thought about going on holiday at the same time as everyone else, either! I just can’t imagine it!

Yes, there isn’t some sort of homeschooling priority pass which means you could just avoid massive queues and crowds all the time! I think if there was probably a lot more people would homeschool! 8)
LOL, that is so true!!! I think a big reason why so few kids are homeschooled is because a lot of parents don’t even know it’s an option! You really don’t see it mentioned much at all!
No, you don’t, I guess because school families tend not to be able to get to know the homeschool familes, as they don’t really meet. I think that’s really sad, because the homeschool familes I know are some of the nicest people I’ve ever met!
Yes, that is very true. I guess homeschool families tend to go to activities, and things like that during school hours, and school families tend to go to things after school hours, which is probably why they don’t meet too much!
And I know, I wish more people could see that homeschooled kids are just as friendly as kids that go to school!
Yes, that probably is the case.
I only know the homeschooled people I know (I guess you’re the exception, but I don’t REALLY know you) from my church- otherwise I would never have met them, which is an odd thought!

Yeah, I’ve been on a few trips this year! I enjoy them very much, but sometimes I wish we went on less, so I could do more things at home…. does that make any sense?
I think I would maybe be in Year 9 or 10? Not sure, tho! :P (You see, my education level is marked in Grades, because my mom’s American, so I’m not 100% sure what the English equivalent is)
I don’t really do exams, but I did do a pretty huge set of questions about Geometry (to finish a course) recently! :)

Yes, to be honest I’ve just been busy with school, friends, family and fun (that pretty much sums up my year!) so haven’t done as much reading as maybe before!
That does make sense, although I think I have the opposite thing- my family aren’t BIG holiday abroad- type people, I guess because we know SO many people in England we don’t really have much time for visiting foreign countries too!

Aw, that sounds lovely! :) I haven’t been reading much because of all the studying I’ve been doing. (I also haven’t been sleeping as good because of it, but that’s a different matter. :P)

Yep, I do! Or at least mostly… I’ll probably have to do GCSEs to be able to get a proper job here, but apart from that I use the American learning curriculum. :)

Yes, we know loads of people it seems, as both my parents went to university and made loads of friends, who’ve moved away, as well as various friends we’ve made at church (we’re Christians) along the way as well!

That’s ok though, I kind of love being busy and having a plan, although some of my more chilled friends, who don’t really plan ahead, are amazed at our family’s schedule for these holidays! Oh no I’m really sorry, I’ve just noticed the message I sent you never went through! How annoying- it’s not the first time it’s happened as well.
Anyways, how have you been? I’ve had a really lovely summer holidays so far, the first week I went to the Keswick Convention, which is like a Christian convention thing in the lake District- it’s so good! The week after that I went to a Christian camp- it was the first time I’d ever been away from my family for a whole week, but it was really really fun!!! I’ve just been to London fo a few days and now this afternoon im going to Cornwall- I’m SO busy! I do see what you mean about having loads of friends making life more fun, but I also think that just having a really small, tight circle and spending loads of time with family is also REALLY good and healthy – it’s certainly less exhausting!
Yes, that totally makes sense! There’s always been a bit of me that really wishes I’d been homeschooled- I know there are things you miss out on, but at the same time that flexibility, that independence, and all the family time you get, I think I would LOVE that. School is good too, it’s just sometimes it gets too much, and you are more forced to socialise nicely every single day, which can be harder when your tired!
Have you done anything nice recently? Also, what books have you been reading? I feel like we don’t talk about that much, which is ironic given as we’re on a reading website!

That is also definitely true. It’s good to have a mixture of both those, I think: days when you are around lots of people, and talking and doing a lot together, and quieter days, with a small group of close friends or family, where you’re just together, and you don’t have to talk much or do anything, just chill and read. :D

Those are the things that I love most about homeschooling too! That I get to be around my brother and sister all day every day, and that I can study basically anything that I want to. :D
Well, my family and I went to Liverpool recently! We went to the Beatles museum, and it was so much fun! :)
XD Isn’t it just?? I’ve been reading a lot of teenage crime novels recently, and I love them!! I’ve also currently halfway through the second book in one of my favourite romantasy duologies: The Revenant Games! I would definitely recommend them to anyone who loves fantasy or paranormal novels :D

I think school has made me quite a different person to who I would be otherwise- I’m probably more aware of things like trends and ‘fitting in’ and that sort of thing, which I don’t know if it’s a very good thing always- I for one would be fine without it!

Oh ok wow! Those books sound really good! I’ve been enjoying rereading some books- there’s this series called the Wingfeather Saga which I LOVE, so I’ve just reread those. Apart from that I don’t really remember what I’ve been reading!
Wow, really? I guess that’s a pretty big difference between kids who go to school and those that don’t; homeschooled kids aren’t trendy, lol. I think – in general – homeschooled kids (especially my brother) tend to have a very different outlook on things as well; a unique perspective that other people don’t see or understand? (I don’t know if I’m explaining that right, sorry!) And most people say that kids that are homeschooled are unsociable, but we’re not! For example my sister always goes super quiet and shy when we go to see our grandparents, but she’s really loud and cheerful at home! I think most homeschooled kids just aren’t used to being around so many people.
It’s great! I really recommend it, as I learnt so much about the Beatles! (It IS very expensive, though… Be warned you might be spending nearly a hundred pounds to go around it!! XD)

Yes, maybe so, but then is being trendy that important? I’ve been thinking quite a bit about it recently- how much of what I do is decided by those around me?- and I’ve decided that at least for me if how I act is generally loving and generous, if I do my work well and proactively, etcetera, then who cares what others think? But obviously that’s just me others think differently! (Sorry for sharing my deep life thoughts there lol!)
I totally understand, you do just naturally have your own viewpoint of life no matter what, and the more you don’t spend time with the majority of people the more your viewpoint is unique! I think it’s really good we live in a world where there are SO many different people with SO many viewpoints, opinions and ways seeing the world! I think that’s really healthy, that we don’t all just think the exact same.

Hi, sorry for ALSO not replying for ages (I was away!) but I hope you’ve had a good week!
I don’t know, as in I LOVE visiting loads of people, but I think just having a few close friends and not having a really wide circle of people is also really good. It definitely makes organising summer holidays a lot easier, as you don’t have to coordinate with loads of other people about THEIR dates and where THEY are- you can more just do what you want when you want!
Yes, that does make sense. I’ve probably said this before, but I do kind of wish I was homeschooled- you get so much more freedom, you get loads of family time, it’s easier to go on holiday… As in don’t get me wrong, I love school too, but sometimes it can be a little limiting I guess? In COVID, when obviously no-one went to school really, I loved it, because of the amount of time I got outside, doing what I wanted. How was covid for you? It’s really interesting learning about other people’s experiences of it.
