I’m back with another historical fact about the 22nd of July (Today)!

On the 22nd of July 1953, Wiley Post started his flight around the world in 8 days in an aeroplane. This was the first time a full circumnavigation had ever been achieved in a plane. In 1983, on the same date, Dick Smith finished his circumnavigation of the globe in a helicopter in just under a year. What a day for aviation!

It is incredible how it took just 8 days for a plane to circumnavigate the globe, while it took a helicopter almost a year! 8 days is one of the fastest times for a human manned plane to circle the world!

Let’s make sure we don’t forget how incredible humans and our transport has evolved, and how powerful our machines can be and what incredible feats people can achieve.
