Welcome to the Winter Mini Challenge 2022!
This year, The Reading Agency teamed up with the Science Museum Group for a fantastic Summer Reading Challenge with the Gadgeteers.
Now we’re back for the Winter Mini Challenge!
Join the Gadgeteers as they use their ingenuity and creativity to keep everyone entertained during a snowstorm.
Get ready for cool do-it-at-home experiments and the best reading activities around as you complete your very own Winter Mini Challenge.
Sounds great! How do I take part?
Taking part in the Winter Mini Challenge is simple: all you have to do is read at least three books between 1 December 2022 and 20 February 2023.
You can choose any books you like – fact books, fiction, joke books, picture books, eBooks, audio books – the choice is yours!
Once you’ve read a book, add it to your website profile and write a review to let everyone know what you thought.
Add 3 books or more to complete the Winter Mini Challenge and unlock a brand new certificate AND a limited-edition virtual badge!
We have a fun (and handy) Reading Record for you to print out and note down your favourite winter reads. Remember to log your books online to unlock virtual rewards too!
Getting started
If you don’t have a profile yet, getting one is easy: tap the ‘Join’ button at the top of this page to sign up.
If you’re joining us for the first time, you’ll need a parent or carer to help you.
Already signed up? Log in and tap the ‘My Challenge’ button to visit your personal profile page.
Use your profile page to rate and review your books, keep track of books you want to read in the future, and see all of your badges and rewards.
You can use your account all year round to log your reading activity and take part in the Summer Reading Challenge and Winter Mini Challenge!
Finding books to read
You can use any books you like to complete the Winter Mini Challenge.
Now’s your chance to dip back into our amazing Gadgeteers Book Collection – get ready to be boggled by fun facts and be inspired by inventive tales with this huge range of recommendations. There’s sure to be a perfect book for you!
Visit your local public library or your school library to borrow books for free. You can also borrow books online – visit your local library website to find eBooks and audio books.

Downloading your certificate
Once you’ve completed the Winter Mini Challenge, go to your profile and tap the pink ‘My Rewards’ button.
Tap on the Hero badge to see your certificate. You can download a copy to keep and print out.
