Having lost their parents in an earthquake, Anna and her siblings live with their prim uncle and feeble aunt. Anna lives only to dance – but her uncle forbids her to have anything to do with ballet. How will she survive? For Anna, everything takes second place to her burning desire to dance. Even the earthquake that destroyed her Turkish home has not made her think differently, only now she's stuck in a prim suburban household with an uncle who ""doesn't approve"" of dancing. What can Anna do? Not only is there no one to give her lessons, but there's no money for them either, and, anyway, dancing's forbidden. Will she ever become the ballerina she longs to be?

I don’t really like ballet but it’s obvious that Anna loves it! And I love the fact that there are so many challenges

I would recommend this book to 9-12 year olds as a four star book. It has a modern-day version of it called No Ballet shoes in Syria.

This book is about how a girl named Anna has a burning desire to dance .But...She can't pay for her lessons because her parents died .She and her brothers have been taken to their uncle who is not willing to help Anna. My favourite character is Anna because she never gives up. The characters did feel real because this book is based on a real story. My favourite part of the book is when Anna goes to dance with Madame Scarleti because Anna finally achieved her goal. I think I would recommend this book to fans of drama.

This book is brilliant. The plot is heartbreaking and realistic at the same time. I would definitely recommend this book.
