Having left Nicko and Snorri behind in another time Septimus must travel to the House of Foryx, the place where All Times Do Meet to get them back. He is also given the Questing stone, and all the previous apprentices that have gone on the Queste have never returned, will he make it back?

This has laws that are broken. It has revenge, justice. Septimus Heap is put on a queste even though he hasn't graduated - being an extraordinary wizard. It has ghosts and also the malevolent mastermind, Tertius Fume. Can Septimus accomplish the queste?
