Terry Deary and Martin Brown s brilliant books about the nastiest periods in history have now with the help of some astounding actors been transformed into a series of audio extravaganzas. Featuring new, extra material not found anywhere in the books, these sound spectaculars are just as thrilling and spilling, funny and fast as their printed counterparts. Horrible Histories are guaranteed to bring you history with the nasty bits left in! The Frightful First World War gives you dire details of the dreadful war that affected everyone from peace-loving protestors (who fought even before the battles began) to the suffering soldiers in the muddy, bloody trenches. Find out about the horrors and hardships of the war that was meant to last four months…but ground on for four grim years. History has never been so horrible!

My thoughts are there were lots of facts in it and it had lots of gruesome facts about the first world war! My favourite part was learning about the German trenches and how well kept they were! Proper toilets and sewage system!

The first world war started when the black hand gang assassinated the heir to the throne in Austria-Hungary and his wife. France decided to help the black hand gang( who come from Serbia), Germany decide to help Austria-Hungary. Russia had a treaty with france so helped france and so then when Germany walked through Belgium to get to france the British helped Belgium who had a treaty with the French so the British joined the war on the side of Serbia. It's a non-fiction book with lots of facts and jokes. It's a history book and is suitable for people 10+ My favourite part is this- Noses are red, my feet are blue, there's lice in my pants and rats ate the stew.

The pictures and captions are really funny, but the text is hard to take into your mind and imagine, and then they give you quizzes!!!
