ICE BOY Firstly a boy called Edward receives a note from a foreign old man and asks to deliver it to his son. On the way back home he collects stones like never before. When he arrives his brother Matt told him to throw them away , as he threw the last one he realised it had a sharp end and he had cut himself. He put on a bandage and decided to keep it. When he was going to bed his brother claimed that his Uncle Hooder hated their dead dad. In the middle, Edward went swimming and saw a man struggling at sea. He wrapped him up in a beach robe and his dad's old shoes. He soon figures out that he was destined to read the note, his name was Bur, but apparently he left the note at home . Edward brings him to a place with a sign saying 'BED AND BREAKFAST' to stay. The Newnes Sisters let hi stay. When Edward returns they say it is not a good time for he was sleeping. He is also asked to find Bur's boat so that he could return home he is accompanied by a girl named Lyddie. Towards the end of the book he finds Bur's boat and they wanted to go and see the island . They borrow Lyddie's boat and set sail. When they arrived, Edward sees a man called Locke who has longed to prevent Bur from sailing home. Edward is fooled by his claims that Bur was using him as well as the Newnes sisters, he is also questioned about that stone he decided to keep he couldn't resist saying that he threw it into an isolated house. Locke also wants the powerful stick from the great ash tree but he was denied. He decides to keep Edward on the island forever! Luckily, he sees his brother Matt wearing the sea god's costume however Edward was still quite confused n how he got over the sea. Since Locke was a shape-shifter he made himself into a crab.Matt used the costume as a net to heave over the crab and it worked. Locke soon decided to morph himself into a fish. They were forced to let go for it would have already died. When they arrive back home Edward can see Locke and his children ( Helga, Snick and Wolf ) attempting to retrieve the stick from him. Soon after he also sees them carrying Bur as if it is a dead body. Edward get the note from his pocket and waves it around in Bur's face hoping that he could read it, but it doesn't work. So instead he gives it to Vali so she can try to read it. When she cracks the code it seemed to late. The Newnes Sisters say they saw Bur leaving back to his island. I would recommend this book for the ages 9-15.
