Wessex, Southern England, 878. Fortunes are not on the side of the English and the Vikings will soon control all the land. Even young Ethelbert believes he could do a better job than King Alfred. Little does he know that soon he will be called on to prove it.

I liked King Alfred in the story. The best bit of the book was when King Alfred said who he was to Gytha and Ethelbert because suddenly Ethelbert changed from saying "hit him ma" to "better not hit him ma".

I enjoyed this book because it was baced on Vikings and they lived more than 1000 years ago. The Author must have thought alot about about the history in what they were writing about. My favrot charicter was king Alfred because he didnt stop the old women from beating him up for he new what he had done to earn it. He burnt the bread meant for the house oners tea, so he didnt complain. yes I would recormend the book because althogh it was a story, it also tels you a bit about what life was like in wars betwen the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings.

It is a very interesting story and I also liked how King Alfred kept losing battles and if he didn't stop soon the Vikings would take all of his lands off him. I liked Ethelbert because he led the King to his army. I loved how King Alfred and Ethelbert sneaked into the Viking Camp and saw their plans so they disguised themselves as Minstrels. They told King Gudrun of the Viking Clan they should attack Ethndun then left to go back to the English camp so they could get ready for the attack and prepare themselves so they had the best time for this. I really enjoyed this book and it was a gift from my Headteacher to me for my good handwritting.

It is very funny and I loved the way King Alfred and Ethelbert snuck into the Viking Camp to find out their plans so they disguised thereselves as Minstrels. They told King Gudrun of the Viking Clan they should attack Ethndun then left to go back to the English camp so they could get ready for the attack and prepare themselves so they had the advantage this time.
