Whisk yourself away to lands of magic and wonder with Enid Blyton’s New Adventures of the Wishing-Chair.

In Book 1, Jack and Jessica find an old rocking chair in the shed of their new house. Suddenly, a pixie called Wishler appears and says he was trapped in the chair. He wants to go home, so soon they’re off to the Island of Surprises on the magical wishing-chair. But there they meet a rather naughty wizard named Flick and they discover that surprises aren’t always nice . . .

Short chapters and beautiful illustrations make the New Adventures of the Wishing Chair perfect bedtime reading for children aged five and upwards. A richly nostalgic offering for grandparents and parents to share with the next generation of Blyton fans.

The pixie got trapped in the chair by the wizard who was the king of the toy making fairies. She got fired and then she found some friends that helped her get out. They were rubbing the chair clean. They went to the island of surprise in the chair. They went through a tunnel called the see me back to the castle. On the way they met the shadows that were their shadows. They didn’t look exactly like them because they were holding torches. The shadows led them to the way out of the cave. She lied about an invincibility potion that they could get past the teddy bear. It’s gigantic! They got the manual for fixing the chair because it turned into sugar. When they got to the island of surprises. The children got the wishing chair and went back home.

I love this book. It has lots of characters and my favourite one was Wishler. I liked it because it was magic and crazy, I particularly loved how objects changed into different objects and when Jack's reflection squeezed his nose playfully.

This is a book about a boy and a girl who find a magic chair with a pixie inside it. The chair can fly. They help the pixie get back home. I like this book because it is exciting.

'The new adventures of the wishing-chair' are a great series of books and I absolutely love them. The Island of surprises is the first one that I have read this summer and I absolutely loved it. I love the way that Enid Blyton chose to start this story: 'Wishler the pixie sighed as he stared out of the window. He had no one to talk to, and he was feeling very lonely...' I also loved the last few sentences of the book: '...And we're going to have many more magical adventures.' Jack laughed ' I wonder where the wishing chair will take us next time!!!' This book is highly recommended and given 5 huge stars!!!'

There were new children in this book and I think I know how they got the wishing chair from Molly and Peter.

In this story surprises happen. The surprises are odd but also fun. Jack and Jessica found an old shed in there garden, inside the shed they saw a chair, they dusted the pictures on the chair and a little pixie called Wishler jumped out.
