I loved this book because it shows how far love can travel to find family members. My favourite character was Colonel Paul because he risked his life for Sean and Annie

I liked this story because it is about two children who's mum died and had to go to America with their dad to find land on their own as their dad was already there. It was a scary journey. I liked Sean best, as he is the most mature child and he is very caring and kind to his sister. It interested me because on the cover it showed a picture of a boy and girl going on a journey. I would very much recommend this book.

My favourite part is when Sean and Annie finally reach California after so many people try to help them and they found out that their mother who they thought was dead, had reached their father before them even though she set out later then the two children. The family were reunited at last. My least favourite part is when Sean becomes ill with pneumonia whilst on the ship with the colonel and his chances of survival were very slim because he could hardly breathe within his coughs. Even his younger sister, Annie, gave him up for lost and was upset and depressed at her loss. Annie and Sean escape a plague in their home in Ireland but they have to leave their dying mother behind under her commands. They get lots of help and they always bring their most precious possession, their golden tork. They mourn the people and companions that they lost but they also dance. They face many many challenges. At the end, Sean and Annie make it to California in one piece and are actually surprised to find that their mother had already reached their father’s side. They were so happy.

The book was an exciting adventure of two children traveling across the Atlantic to find their father. My favourite character was Liam Donnelly, a fiddle player that Sean and Annie befriend. I would definitely recommend it to someone else.
