It was a good an idea of the Second World War . An 8 year old evacuee called William Beach ,who was beaten brutally by his mum, went a little village Called little weirwolt and stayed with a man called Mr Tom Oakley . William met friends called Zach, Ginny and George. William was behind at learning and didn’t know how to read or write . William loved to draw and loved staying with Mr Tom as he was very kind with Willie. Willie was scared of Mr Tom when he first met him as he looked very strong for an old man also his mum beaten him and thought all adults will beat him also he has scars of beat marks from a belt all over his back .I think this a good book as Willie returned to his Mum in London and it has very intriguing information also it has Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s speech of announcing the Second World War.

Goodnight Mr Tom is a book about an evacuee from London who goes to live with an old widower. Although he comes from London as a sickly little boy he slowly flourishes under the care of kindly Tom Oakley. Mr Oakley clearly cares for William Beech, the evacuee, and helps him to thrive. I would recommend this book to older readers as some of the religious views are a little extreme and when William is recalled to London his treatment there is ethically questionable. Although this book, I believe is an excellent recount of life in WW2 I think some elements of it would be better for older reader, about 11+.

This story was amazing because it related to world war two times and how hard it was for some children from London moving into the countryside. This book is non fiction as it is related to world war 2 , my favourite person was Carrie as she was fighting for her education fights

I absolutely loved this book. It was sad in some places because people were hurt or killed during the war but this is how it was. It was lovely in far more places though. The story starts with a boy called William Beech. His mum mistreats him and beats him. He has to be evacuated and ends up billeted with a grumpy man called Mr Tom. Mr Tom is grumpy because he is lonely because his wife and son died. Although Mr Tom really doesn't want Willie to start with, the bond grown through a series of bomb shelters, best friends and trips to the seaside.

Goodnight Mr Tom is a really good book because Mr Tom Oakley, who lives in Little Weirworld, started to be kind to a little boy called William Beech, who was an evacuee from war-torn London. My favourite person in this book is William because he is a very good drawer and he couldn't read or write but with the help of his teachers and Mr Tom, he learnt how to very quickly.

I thought this was a really good book. I have been learning about evacuation during the War and children being sent to live in the countryside. I have done lots of topic lessons on wartime, during lockdown with my mum, and watched the lessons by Western Approaches Museum in Liverpool. My dad told me that his dad was evacuated from London.

This book was very good, it is based on a war time evacuee and he is sent to Mr tom, his mother is very mean and horrible and whips him with a belt that got him nasty bruises. The book can be upsetting in places so I reccomend for ages 10 and a 1/2+
