I found the book a bit sad because it was based in the war but it was a good story. My favourite character was Annemarie who was the lead character. She was brave and a good friend.

I loved this novel. My favorite part was when Anne-Marie and her family had to help her best friend escape the natzis during ww2. It was quite sad when Peter was shot because he was part of the resistant and when Lisa died in a car crash but overall its a really good book.

When Annemarie Johansen's friend Ellen gets in trouble she helps them. The German's were going to occupy Denmark. I like Kirshti most. It interested me when the soldiers saw Ellen and Annemarie running. I will recommend this book to my friends

This story was utterly wonderful! I would reccomend it to some one interested in world war II or morals. The morals this story told were incredible. My favourite character was the main one.

I think this was a really good book because it bought the history of a world war into a beautiful book. I also found it very emotional.

I loved this book so much!!! I loved the suspense and the way Lois Lowry painted a picture with words. But most of all I loved the way Lois Lowry really made you feel for the characters. You must read this book!!!!

I couldn't put this book down! There were short chapters often ending in a cliff hanger. I learned lots especially as this book about two girls during WW2 was set not in Britain but Denmark. It was sad.

Nazis on every street corner, food rations, fear, apprehension - this is 10 year old Annemarie's world. Even though she can remember happier times, Annemarie has to be brave for her younger sister, Kirsti, and has adapted to the changes in her life. One night, this all changes. Ellen, Annemarie's closest friend, abruptly arrives to stay for the night to pretend to be her sister and Annemarie's family is dragged into a world of danger, bravery and war. Is the war one large battle or many small victories?
