The Owl Service
Alan Garner
From the author of the Booker Prize-shortlisted Treacle Walker
The much-loved classic, finally in ebook. Winner of both the Guardian Award and the Carnegie Medal, this is an all-time classic, combining mystery, adventure, history and a complex set of human relationships. It all begins with the scratching in the ceiling. From the moment Alison discovers the dinner service in the attic, with its curious pattern of floral owls, a chain of events is set in progress that is to effect everybody’s lives. Relentlessly, Alison, her step-brother Roger and Welsh boy Gwyn are drawn into the replay of a tragic Welsh legend – a modern drama played out against a background of ancient jealousies. As the tension mounts, it becomes apparent that only by accepting and facing the situation can it be resolved.Reviews
This was a fun fantasy book, but I found it a bit boring sometime because there was too much discussion sometimes between the characters. I didn’t really have a favourite character but overall it was a good book. I would recommend this book but some people might not like it.

I really like the Owl Service because it is really exciting and it's about all the Welsh magic and I like reading about old magic. I like it because there's bits where the characters are quite moody. My favourite characters were probably Alison or Gwyn because because I think they were the main characters and they had arguments but they also got along at same time. I think Roger was quite mean but I also liked Clive and Huw they were both nice but Huw got a bit angry sometimes and I think Clive was being a bit stupid because all the kids were doing naughty things under his nose and it was quite funny.
