Sophie and Josh are ordinary twins who lead ordinary lives, until one day when something unexpected happens. There lives are forever changed, and the survival of the world depends on them…

This book is really interesting and I love how the author changes who they are viewing (as the characters get split up) in each chapter. Also I love how they experiment with the concept of how twins can feel each others pain. I would definitely recommend this book ( which is part of a series) to others!

I think that this book is a very good read. It combined magical, fantasy myths with a modern day setting, which is mainly a good thing. It is about Sophie and Josh Newman, twins who's world gets completely turned upside down one day when it turns out that Josh's boss, the scatterbrained Nick Fleming, turns out to be Nicholas Flamel, The Alchemyst. Nicholas and his wife Perenelle are on the run from Dr. John Dee,who wishes to bring back malevolent Elders from the beginning of time. They have been fleeing from country to country in an attempt to keep from him The Codex, the magical book of Abraham the Mage, which contains the secret to the philosopher's stone and spells that could herald the return of the Dark elders. Flamel must take the twins to safety, especially as they could just be the key to saving the world...

I like this book because it is sort of like Harry Potter which i have previously read though it is a modern day version. It is a fiction book which involves a variety of characters and my favourite is Nicholas Flamel as he is the most interesting i find this book interested me when i read the blurb and it intrigued me as to what it was about as i like books about magic and sorcery and i will defiantly recommend it to anyone with the same interests.

I really like the mix of historical characters and modern life. I had heard of Nicholas Flames from the Harry Potter books and so was interested that he was a real person. In this, the first book in the series, we meet Josh and Sophie. They are twins and Flamel thinks they are the twins of legend. We don't find out what that is yet, but the book is quite an adventure.

It's full of magic and mystery, and the adventures and characters the twins come across are challenging but extraordinary.

You really feel as if you are inside the book; such is the intensity of the web of words that Michael Scott has spun.
