An unforgettable story of life during and after the Second World War, based on true accounts. For readers of The Book Thief, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and The Diary of Anne Frank.

This is a story of many different things.

Of a terrible war and an occupied land

Of the Balicki children who are determined to survive

Of a dangerous journey from war-torn Poland to Switzerland

Of a paper knife that gives them the courage to carry on when nearly all hope is lost.

I totally adored this book. I liked how it was based on a true story. My favourite character was Edek I loved how even though he was very ill, he carried on and by using positivity he lived a happy life. This book was recommended to me by a very kind lady who worked in a book shop when I told her I really liked reading about war.I would recommend this book to others!

This book is very gripping and all about believing in yourself. This book was a mix between a fictional and a nonfictional story because it was based on a real story but they changed the names and added new activities . My favourite character is Edeq. I love how through the story, even though he was quite ill and sad things happened to him, he made it through the war, by keeping positive.

This was a fiction book which I really enjoyed. You might think, "oh, it's just another story about ww2, I don't need to read this one," but you'd be mistaken because it isn't a traditional English one (which, tbh, are getting a little bit boring now) but one about what happened in Poland. If your like me, you probably don't know anything about what happened in Poland in ww2 so READ THIS BOOK! Who knew Poland was completely ruined in ww2? Not me! Anyway, this book can be read at any age, but it's not like a picture book so younger children might spend longer reading it.

This book helped me understand how people were affected by WW2 and it was really helpful because I'm learning about WW2 at school.

The Silver Sword When Edek, Ruth, Bronia and Jan leave Warsaw to find their parents, they encounter many dangers. Freak storms, soldiers and even a Chimp! Whilst fleeing to Switzerland, they meet many friends but how can they be sure they are not a foe? I really enjoyed this book and I loved the suspense, will they get there or not, well that’s the secret. My favourite character is Jan, as he always carries around a cockrell, until a horrible avent. I rate this book 5 stars

I liked Jan the most because he was always very cheeky and he does a lot of things that are against the law.

This a moving story, based on true facts. It is a fiction book but also sort of historical as it is set in Poland ,WW2.My favourite character is Jan, because of his mischief and naughtiness.I would certainly recommend this book to anyone interested in history, especially World War 2

This is a hard book to read, but it is informative and based on fact, but is a fictional book. There will be many people who experienced what the family went through. I would recommend it if you wanted to find out more about war. Jan is my favourite character, he is cheeky but loyal.

It was very happy at the end and sad at the beginning. It was a fun story to read as the characters in it set off on a journey and it was fun tracing them on that journey

The Silver Sword is about a Polish family in World War 2. The war-time setting really made it very depressing because a family was torn apart. However, the whole story was filled with suspense and I really liked the ending. My favourite character was Ruth because even though she suffers like the others, she takes charge.

It teaches you the value of things we take for granted.
