Want to know a secret? There is something very, very strange living in the trees behind my house. If you tiptoe slowly and quietly (ssh!) to the bottom of my garden, you might hear it rustling and rootling and ‘peh!’ing in the dark undergrowth, on the other side of the low stone wall. And if you peek over the wall – holding your breath – there’s a chance you could spot two saucer-round eyes blinking out of a strangely square opening in the tree roots…Ruby and Jackson get the surprise of their lives when they discover a Thing living at the bottom of their gardens. But Thing is cute, and funny, even if sometimes when he’s upset he gets a bit ARRGHH! And that’s when the trouble starts. Like the time he comes to school, and Ruby and Jackson find themselves mixed up in a terrible tangle of noodle-doodles! The second in a hilarious new series by best-selling author Karen McCombie, illustrated throughout with irresistible black and white line art by Alex T. Smith.

I liked this book because I can imagine how crazy Thing can be and all of the trouble he can get into. Ruby and Jackson find Thing and take him to school with them. Whenever Thing gets nervous magic happens. He makes the horrible dinner lady get tangled up in noodles and she has to leave the school. They replace her with a nice dinner lady which makes Ruby and Jackson happy.

It was a bit frightening but with some good bits. My favourite character is Thing because when he feels "arrghh" there is magic. The worst character was Mrs Sweeney they called her meany sweeney.

I was sitting on the beach whilst reading this and it only took me about 45 minutes so it is a good book for the reading challenge! It is extremely funny and the main character speaks in wired ways. He is cluelessso the only two people who know about him teach Hume loads of simple things. It is a really great book so ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!

This book is exciting because there is a thing that talks and is half squirrel and half dog.

This book has a boy,a girl and a very strange thing. Imagine a Fairy and a squirrel put in a blender and had ginger fur. That's what thing is. The problem is thing can't do any useful magic. It can only create mayhem. When they try to sneak thing in to school it turns out to be a disaster.
