Ethan's Voice
Rachel Carter
Perfect for fans of Mark Haddon, David Almond and Jacqueline Wilson
How do you begin to tell your story when you can’t speak? Ethan lives on the canal. He likes it there. He can go to the pond and catch newts and minnows. He can learn everything he needs to know from books and from his mum. No one there laughs at him because he doesn’t talk. Ethan can’t remember exactly when he stopped talking or why. It is only when he meets Polly, a girl who has recently moved to the canal, that he begins to wish things were different.Reviews

A really emotional story with a great ending. This was recommended by a friend and I understand why. This is a book that I will read again, tell people about and remember when people as for a great book to read. It really highlights that people who can't talk find life hard and that they are smart enough to find their way around it. My favourite character has to be Ethan's friend Polly because she is really supportive and won't give up on helping him.

It is a great book because its a uplifting story and makes you feel happy. It also teaches you to be brave and try new things . I personally like the book because of the setting description and the story line. My favourite character is Polly because she doesn't care that Ethan is shy and she still wants to be his friend. In the story Ethan finds a friend called Polly and they go on lots of adventures trying to find why Ethan stopped talking. At the end of the book Polly leaves to find a new home and Ethan starts talking. I would recommend this book to all my friends as it is a short and touching story.

I liked this book. It's interesting...It's about a boy that stopped speaking when he was seven years old. He doesn't know why, but he is -somehow- afraid. He studies at home - boat- until a lady visits him. She tells him that going to school would help him speaking again. He doesn't want to. He thinks that they would bully him like his last school, and that's why he stopped going. A new boat called Moon's End arrives to the pond and there's a girl -Polly- who has his same age. Polly is different; she wants to be his friend, no matter that he doesn't speak. He wants to communicate with her...Would Polly make him speak?
