From the queen of historical fiction, a ghostly tale about love, loss and forgiveness with an instant classic feel.

The gates to Frost Hollow Hall loomed before us. They were great tall things, the ironwork all twisted leaves and queer-looking flowers. And they were very definitely shut.

Tilly’s heart sinks. Will’s at the door of their cottage, daring her to come ice-skating up at Frost Hollow Hall. No one goes near the place these days. Rumour has it that the house is haunted . . . Ten years ago the young heir, Kit Barrington, drowned there in the lake. But Tilly never turns down a dare.

Then it goes horribly wrong. The ice breaks, Tilly falls through and almost drowns. At the point of death, a beautiful angel appears in the water and saves her. Kit Barrington’s ghost.

Kit needs Tilly to solve the mystery of his death, so that his spirit can rest in peace. In order to discover all she can, Tilly gets work as a maid at Frost Hollow Hall. But the place makes her flesh crawl. It’s all about the dead here, she’s told, and in the heart of the house she soon discovers all manner of dark secrets . . .

Frost Hollow Hall is a thrilling historical fiction debut. Told in Tilly’s unique voice, it is a tale of love and loss, and how forgiveness is the key to recovery.

‘Believable, moving and just the right sort of frightening.’ Daily Telegraph

This was a historical fiction book, but I would not recommend it to you. This was a tale of grief and loss and barely any happiness. People who like spooky, bit sad, weird books and death should read it. There is a tiny bit of romance and horrific things so young readers shouldn't read it.

I liked Tilly Higgins for her bravery and Will Potter for his personality. It was a fictional history book of a ghost who is in trouble. It interested me when Tilly decided to work as a servant in Frost Hollow Hall to discover more evidence of Kit Barrington. I would recommend it to people who like history and ghosts and a thrill for mystery

My favourite character is Gracie because I love her sensitive character and she sounds very caring. This book made me even more curious as I read further so it made me think a lot about what could happen next. This book is really great and I know it should be read everywhere.

I think this book was interesting as the book was easy to understand and it had some really emotional parts that made you realise that spirits are not so scary

A haunting tale set in Victorian England. Tilly almost drowns after skating on thin ice at Frost Hollow Hall. Luckily somebody saves her, but who exactly? A gripping read that will have questions buzzing in your head.

I liked Mrs Jessop the best because through everything that has happened to her she wasn't crying everyday.

I loved Tilly but William was awesome too! William dared Tilly to ice skate on the lake on the anniversary of Kit Barrington dying after ice skating on that SAME lake. Tilly nearly died but Kit's ghost saved her. After that she started working in the Barrington's house. When she walked up the stairs to her room mysterious and scary things happened. It was a ghost. But not Kit... It was a very scary book but it was one of the best books I've read! Emma Carroll is an amazing book writer! Other books that I have read by her are: In Darkling Wood, The girl who walked on air and I'm currently starting to read Letters From The Lighthouse!
