Book the First – The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Book 1)
Lemony Snicket, Tim Curry
A sorrowful tale of tragedy and woe, that goes from bad to worse, and then some…
Dear Customer,I am sorry to tell you that this CD is extremely unpleasant. It tells an unhappy tale about three unlucky children. Even though they are charming and clever, the Baudelaire siblings lead lives filled with misery and woe. One might say that they are magnets for misfortune.
On this recording alone, the three youngsters encounter a greedy and repulsive villain, itchy clothing, a disastrous fire, a plot to steal their fortune and cold porridge for breakfast.
It is my sad duty to record these unpleasant tales, but there is nothing stopping you from ignoring this tape completely and choosing something happy instead, if you prefer that sort of thing.
With all due respect, Lemony Snicket
Reviews

My favourite character is Sunny because she is just a baby and she is helpless really. I love the part where count Olaf was testing to make the pretend wedding real was super interesting because there were different twists along the way which I quite admire.

I would recommend it to anyone who likes stories that aren’t as scary that they make you jump out of your wits.I would rate it 6 and a half and up.
Mademoiselle Nectarine Biscuits 19.09.2022

I enjoyed the story but I think the beginning could be improved by including more description about the fire and the scene with their parents in. I would recommend it to readers who are not squeamish and would enjoy a turn in horrible scenes.

I thought this book was like you don't know what is going to happen next but it's also a bit frightening at the same time this book is amazing and I would defiantly recommend it.

Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire's parents have died. Left alone, they are sent to their uncle, Count Olaf's house. The treated them as slaves, made them cook, clean and do the gardening. He was the most vicious being alive. there was only one tiny cot bed for them to share. I would recommend this book to those who love fantasy and cleverness.

i thought it was very good. i really liked count olaf even though he was the bad guy, because the way he escaped the play and how no one suspected he was up to no good was really entertaining in my opinion. i also enjoyed the new vocabulary because when there was a word i didnt understand the author - lemony snicket - provided me with its definition.

I like it because it’s funny and it has lots of adventures in it and I love adventures in stories. Most of all love it when they say “Sunny is as small as a boot”. It’s also a bit scary.

This book surprised me - it took me on an emotional rollercoaster; at times I found myself crying, at others relieved. It was a thoroughly enjoyable story line and I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a book to throw themselves into head first - you will get sucked into it. My favourite character was Sunny, she had some funny one liners due to her age and this comedic relief was very useful.

Sergeant Bart Teacup 26.06.2020

This might be a truly tragic tale for some, but honestly, I loved this book from start to finish! The Baudelaire siblings become orphans at the very start of the book, after losing their parents in a mysterious fire taking them away from everything they know and love. From the beginning to the end of the book, the orphans suffer through many horrible things. The only thing wrong with this book is that it's impossible to put down. I honestly thought that this was a true story that really happened.

If you like interesting and strange books then this is the right book for you. It is a tale about some children who have lost their home in a fire. A good storyline and good characters. If you like this type of story then I would recommend it to you.

I thought it was so good how he came up with the characters and their qualities because the qualities used were actually useful in the story. Also, when there is a difficult word or phrase he will explain it and link it to experience. My favourite character is Sunny Bauldelaire because she is cute and bites people. Although, I think I most link to Klaus because I’m a bookworm
