The Ruins of Gorlan (Ranger's Apprentice Book 1 )
John Flanagan
The Ruins of Gorlan is the first thrilling book in John Flanagan’s Ranger’s Apprentice series – over eight million sold worldwide.
They have always scared him in the past – the Rangers, with their dark cloaks and shadowy ways. The villagers believe the Rangers practise magic that makes them invisible to ordinary people. And now 15-year-old Will, always small for his age, has been chosen as a Ranger’s apprentice.
What he doesn’t yet realize is that the Rangers are the protectors of the kingdom. Highly trained in the skills of battle and surveillance, they fight the battles before the battles reach the people. And as Will is about to learn, there is a large battle brewing. The exiled Morgarath, Lord of the Mountains of Rain and Night, is gathering his forces for an attack on the kingdom. This time, he will not be denied . . .
Perfect for fans of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, T.H. White’s The Sword in the Stone, Christopher Paolini’s Eragon series and Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson series.

I thought it was fascinating on how a fifteen year old boy trains to be a really good ranger. Especially when he kills a Kalkara and saves his Baron and his master and saves the Kingdom. Then at the end he finds out who his farther was and how his father died protecting the ranger/master called Halt.

I think the prologue was a bit confusing but the rest was super exciting and my favourite character in this book was Halt because I like how he can sneak around anywhere.

A really good book about some young orphans who want to become great knights but are rejected by "Battleschool". Will the main person becomes an appentice to a magical ranger who has cool superpowers and good at bow and arrow and has other amazing wepons! The book is intensive and draws you in! I like the adventure and that it is a young boy like me. I am good on the skateboard but this story is not about skateboards! I would like my friends to read this, girls and boys. We could play "Rangers" - There is no Rugby in the book either but if there was they would win.
