Pearl and Jodie are sisters. Pearl is the quiet, cautious, studious one. Jodie is bold and brash and bad – but Pearl adores her anyway. When their parents get new jobs as the cook and caretaker at a fusty old boarding school, the girls have to move there and spend their summer holidays in the school. And when they arrive, things start to change.

I wouldn't recommend it to people who are sensitive because it contains death, sorrow and sadness. But I thought that once you get past the bad things, the book turned out to be rather enjoyable.

I really loved the book but it was very sad when jodie fell out of the tower and died.I felt really sad for the family because they had to suffer the pain of losing there child.my favourite person was definitely jodie because I think that she resembles me a lot and she is very cool and wild and I like how she doesn't care what other people think about her dying her hair purple or her running around with the little kids with her skirt flying every where at the halloween party on the hall.I think the author needs to keep the description about pearl and harley going to see the badgers interesting so the reader gets pulled into the the story.over all I think this was a really great book and I would recommend it ti one of my friends.

I am BIG Jacqueline Wilson fan, and this funny, saddening book made me cry at the end. An absolute gem of a book, I definitely recommend to others!

This story was good and there were so many relatable thoughts. I think my favourite character was Sakura because she's so sweet and little. This book is so so so so sooo sad especially at the end. I nearly cried. I would recommend this book to Jacqueline Wilson fans.

Would highly recommend to children in later stages of primary school if they end up moving into a new school. Cheerful at times, but also had it's moments where it left me feeling sad. A great work of fiction by Wilson as always.

I loved this book and I would definitely recommend it to someone else. My favourite character was Pearl because she was telling the story and I really felt for her, especially at the end when things take an unexpected turn.

I enjoyed this book. The book is about two sisters called Pearl and Jodie.Pearl is younger and shy while Jodie is older and brave. When they move and the girls go to Melchester College Jodie plans to play a prank at the school Fireworks event but slips off a tower and dies. Pearl’s parents then tell her that she will have a baby sister in May.

I didn't like this book because it was a lovely story at first, but the (supposedly HAPPY) ending was very sad; Jodie ended up dying at the age of 13!
