This book has an amazing historical context, which gives you a realistic idea of what it could have been like to live in Poland during the Second World War. I was thoroughly gripped by the story line!

I love this book because it’s story line was scary but also an amazing adventure where 3 characters had to find their parents. I think that it’s called The silver sword because a character has a little sword given by the dad.

Really nice ending. I really enjoyed reading this book. It helped me understand what it was like during WW2. Also teaches how to be responsible. My favourite character was Ruth because she was so brave and courageous even when bad things happened.

I loved it! The kids are really clever, because they figured out how to live by themselves and all the while evade the Nazis. They were able to get through tricky situations and found their parents in the end.

Ruth, Edek and Bronia have lost there parents in war. Ruth starts up a school in a bombed cellar a ragged orphan Jan turns up. He had met their father and he had given him a silver sword. He could only remember part of the message He was going to Switzerland to try and find their mother. So they set out on a long difficult journey to Switzerland to find their parents.

This book is about a Polish family and is set in World War II. Three children, Ruth, Edek and Bronia, have been locked in their house, and their parents have been taken away by the Nazis to separate camps. The children have been left in the house with a bomb about to blow up (which the Nazis put there), but luckily they escape on the roof just before it blows up. Joseph, their father, escaped prison where the Nazis kept him, and met a boy called Jan, and gives him his sword and tells him if he ever saw his family tell them he is going to Switzerland. 2 years later, the children find Jan, and all traveled to Switzerland. Of course, they did have their ups and downs, but they do manage to find their parents but Jan has none so he lives with the family. This was a great book to read, and it had some tricky words in it which I didn't understand, but overall it was a real page turner! I rate for 9+ and 5 stars. Adventure, and family genre.
