Pigeon Post
Arthur Ransome
Reunited for the summer, the Swallows and Amazons with Dick and Dorothea launch a prospecting expedition to find the lost gold mine of the high hills above the lake. But the mining camp runs into all sorts of trouble: not only the danger of fire in the drought ridden countryside but also scary encounters with unsafe tunnels. Worst of all is the sinister Squashy Hat, who appears to be a rival prospector and who’s certainly a spy – how can they keep working without him discovering what they’ve found?

This time, the Swallows and Amazons are prospecting for gold, hoping to present Captain Flint with an ingot when he returns from South America. However, their plans keep getting interrupted with a drought, a creature named Timothy that doesn't turn up and the appearance of the rival prospector, "Squashy Hat", not to mention a forest fire.

I like the Swallows and Amazons books and I read this one because it was the next one in the series. We've been on holiday to the Lake District where it is set and I have walked up High Topps.

I enjoyed this book because of the fact they were looking for for gold but found copper instead.

It was really exciting and a bit scary sometimes. I liked the names of the pigeons. It is a really good book to read.

You should read this book because it is just as good as any of the others in the series. It gets quite scary in the end of the book, and there are a few plot twists. If you love adventure books, then read these books!
