His Dark Materials: #2 The Subtle Knife
Philip Pullman
Will is twelve years old and he’s just killed a man. Now he’s on his own, on the run, determined to discover the truth about his father’s disappearance. Then Will steps through a window in the air into another world, and finds himself with a companion – a strange, savage girl called Lyra. Like Will, she has a mission which she intends to carry out at all costs. But the world of Cittagazze is a strange and unsettling place. Deadly, soul-eating Spectres stalk its streets, while high above, the wingbeats of distant angels sound against the sky. And in the mysterious Torre degli Angeli lurks Cittagazze’s most important secret – an object which people from many worlds would kill to possess.

It was an interesting multi universe book. From the first book northen light the transition was not exactly smooth but worked. Almost all characters from the first book made it all the way through to the second book but some weren’t there or had very little role. Lyra and Will were the main characters and you follow their journey but also the journey of other character, there is multiple plot lines going on at the same time. It is a little hard to get started but once the action really commences it begins to become a book that you just can’t put down. I would recommend the whole trilogy to people who like reading about super natural things but wouldn’t recommend it to people who have a clear idea of what they think angels and ghosts look like because there are some vividly described images that are not necessarily the normal pictures people think of when they think of angels. This is a really great book.

I thought it was great and very exhilarating, it could be scary and emotional. I liked Iroke Byrnis the armoured bear.( I’m not sure I spelt his name right.) I would recommend it to someone who wasn’t squeamish or emotional.
