Horrible Histories: Woeful Second World War
Terry Deary, Martin Brown

Want to know who made a meal out of maggots? Which smelly soldiers were sniffed out by their enemies? Why white knickers could kill you? Read on for outrageous rumours that everybody believed and wicked weapons that nobody would believe. Find out about 80-year-olds who lied to join ’Dad’s Army’ and 12-year-olds who died defending Berlin to the bitter end. History has never been so horrible!
Reviews
I liked this book so much I wanted to give it ten stars. It was so good and horrible. The best part was where the person said there were floating tanks. I would recommend this this book to everyone.

It was an amazing book to read, especially if one of your history subjects when you go back to school is World War Two! I had learnt about Hitler and how he hated Jews and other cultures, somehow he liked animals better. I want to read about World War One so I can compare, what was the same and what was different between both wars.

It is factual, there are tanks in it. There is so much information about the WW2. I enjoyed reading this book.

I thought it was hard to read because of how people were acting it’s weird because it had jokes but also included reality it’s genre was a mix but I would still recommend this book.

I liked it because it was also funny and interesting instead of giving only facts again and again. I would recommend it but to people who have a bit of background knowledge about the second world war.

I really enjoy horrible histories books because they tell you all sorts of facts that are interesting and good for learning but they are funny and have good pictures.

This book teaches you facts about the Second World War but in a very funny, silly and jokey way. Inside, there are cartoons and fact boxes as well as the text to make learning about it more interesting. I liked this book because it made it more fun and easier to remember the facts. I would recommend this book to any people interested in learning about history in a fun way.

Horribly good! I like fact books and learning about other times! I think other people would like them - they are funny too. I met the illustrator, Martin Brown, in Weymouth library in February.
