Blitzcat
Robert Westall
She made her way down the cliff, and on to the beach. At the edge of the waves, she stopped, shaking her wet paws. She knew that somewhere ahead was her person, but far, far away. She miaowed plaintively; stood staring at the moving blur of uncrossable sea. She led the way to safety, out of the blazing hell of blitzed Coventry. People touched her for luck; feared her as an omen of disaster. Wherever she went, she changed lives…From her beginning to her end she never wavered. She was the Blitzcat. ""Westall’s writing has always been strong and vivid but he has rarely written as confidently as this."" – ""Times Literary Supplement"".

I enjoyed this book at first but the middle was a bit slow, however it got better at the end. Lord Gort was my favourite character because he helped everyone feel better. This book is good for older children who like history.

I first picked this book up because it was an insight into the past, which I am interested in as we should not forget our ancestors who led us safely to the period we are in now. I thoroughly enjoyed this book mainly because it shows how an ordinary cat's life is affected by WW2, and his search for his old master, an RAF pilot. However, when his master finally returns, both cat and human are not the same: their experiences have been terrifying and both have got into tough scrapes. They have learnt to value life, and I would recommend this book as it shows how lucky we all are to live in a peaceful country and period of time.
