A Horse Called Hero
Sam Angus
It is 1940. As the Second World War escalates and London becomes a target for German bombs, Dodo and her horse-mad little brother Wolfie are evacuated to the country, away from everything they know. After weeks of homesick loneliness, they come across an orphaned foal. They name the horse Hero for surviving against the odds and together they raise him, train him, and learn to ride. Their days are suddenly full of life and excitement again, but the shadow of war looms over their peaceful existence, and soon Hero must live up to his name . . .

A horse called hero was a very nice book. It made me learn how good is to help around people and animals and care for the others. My best character was the Hero horse because he helped the boy when his leg was bleeding. I would recommend it , it is a book that made me sad but happy also.

'A Horse called Hero' is about two siblings - Dodo and Wolfie- who are evacuated to the countryside during WW2.They are taken in by Mrs. Sprig: a moany and fussy lady. But when their dad is suspected of cowardince and desertation, they are rescued by Hettie Lamb and her father, a nice lot. Wolfie manages to find hope and happiness in a horse he raised; a horse called Hero. Together the roam the hills, but then Hero goes missing. Is he alive? Who has taken him? I recommend this book to all children 11+ as it was an amazing book.

A Horse Called Hero is a brilliant book. Dodo and Wolfgang are sent to the countryside because of the war, and their dad has gone to fight in the army. In the countryside, Wolfie finds a foal and names it Hero. He and his sister looks after it and brings it up. I think you should read this amazing book and find out what happens.

This tale is sooooooo incredible and heart warming. It is the story of a young brother and sister whose father is away at war. Their father was a previous war hero who earned a Victoria Cross, but after a disastrous turn of events he is classed as a traitor and a deserter. The young siblings with the help of a young horse are faced with several trials that would be traumatising for any adult.
