My Story: Suffragette
Carol Drinkwater
18th June, 1910 We marched from the Embankment to the Albert Hall. It was a glorious day. The sun shone warmly. Everyone was in good spirits. There were aristocrats, artists, even my mother looked happy. She who has been so opposed to my work with the WSPU. More than 10,000 people had rallied and there were dozens of bands playing. It was quite incredible. We waved banners, carried flowers, sang along with the tunes. Hundreds who have been imprisoned for our Cause marched together in a powerful band. It was all very rousing of spirit. I felt proud to be a woman, proud to be alive, proud to be a part of a movement that is fighting to make a difference.

My favourite person in this Diary was Dolly ,she campaigned for votes for women when Emiline Pankhurst was alive . I would recommend this book for children Age 7 to 16.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in history. I would say that part of the book was real and part fake.

I thought this book was very good as it truly showed the acts of violence put on women. I loved how it was written as a diary entry because it showed just how much the treatment they were given could cause them to feel ill, sick or worse. It also showed where the suffragettes felt happy and where they felt disappointed in themselves and others. My favourite character was Flora as she was so kind to Dollie by giving her a place to live. I think I am most like her because I have strong opinions and don't like violence so I would also be a suffragist not a suffragette. Overall, I really enjoyed this book but some of the scenarios were not pleasant to hear about. This is why I would give it a 3/5 stars and recommend it to 12+ . I liked this book because although it's a fictional book it still has lots of interesting facts in it. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.

I loved this book. We read it as a class book and lots of us enjoyed it. I think that Carol Drinkwater is a very good author and I think she wrote this in a very smart way by making up a character and putting it with real life events. I loved the character dolly but I felt a bit sorry for her. The reason I gave this book a four because I didn’t always understand it but my teacher did help explain it. This was a fantastic book and I would definitely recommend it.
