The charming tales of one mischievous cat from War Horse author and former Children’s Laureate Michael Morpurgo.

A cat’s nine lives are full of adventure and excitement and none more so than Montezuma, the farmyard cat. From a young kitten to a grand old cat, he is cunning and proud while establishing his kingdom, but to Matthew, he’s always loving and adorable. A great read that kids aged 9+ will love. Michael Morpurgo, again demonstrates why he is considered to be the master storyteller with this collection of stories. Famed for animal stories such as Little Foxes, Shadow, The Butterfly Lion and An Eagle in the Snow, The Nine Lives of Montezuma is every bit as enthralling. Michael Morpurgo has written more than one hundred books for children and won the Whitbread Award, the Smarties Award, the Circle of Gold Award, the Children’s Book Award and has been short-listed for the Carnegie Medal four times.

In this book Monty is the only kitten who survives in the litter. One cat died, and two were drowned by Matthews Dad. One cat hid and stayed alive, and soon him and his mother moved to the loft of the house Matthews family lived in. Matthew found him there and looked after him and even though his dad didn't like cats, Montezuma lived. He went through battles with Sam, the sheepdog (its fair to say he won) and a black cat. This book is an exciting book- and Monty is brave and daring! He sticks with Matthew but gets lost a couple of times...at the end he dies, which is sad but he was old. At the end it says ' A few nights later, high amongst the warm hay in the old barn, a young she-cat gave birth to her first litter of kittens. There were three, and one of them was ginger with a white patch on its throat' (It looks like Monty) I wonder if this cat went through nine lives...

It is a very interesting book and once you’ve started you can’t really stop. I think what I found interesting was the chapters because the chapters are the the lives of the cat. I would definitely recommend this book to someone else because it is a fantastic story.

I thought it was a sad and adventurous tale of a lucky kitten who saved his life by exploring his home when he fell while he was doing that. My favourite character is the boy because the kept them a secret and later it was his cat i would recommend this book to a cat lover and who doesn't cry all the time i only cried at the end and was a bit sad in the other times

The nine lives of Montezuma is about a cat that lived in a farmyard and growed with his owner. The illustrations Really helped me understand what is happening in the book. I liked the way each chapter is the life of the cat. The other animals made the story very interesting. I would recommend this book to someone because it was interesting.
