I picked up this book and expected a very different story. But the story was so much better than I had anticipated, about being on board a ship, as told from the view of the animals. The characters seem real and you won’t want to leave them at the end of the book.

This book was great! Doris was taken in as a kitten by 2 people, Cap and Bosun, who lived on a boat. Doris made friends with 2 dogs called Madge and John and a chicken called Freda. The characters were really imaginative and it interested me because I love animals and have 2 cats of my own. Doris spent time on shore as there was work being done on the boat and whilst there he encountered a mean cat called Jasper who said unkind things and hurt him during fights. Because of the noise of the building work Doris hid under the tarpaulin covering a dinghy and sadly got left behind when the boat left the shipyard. Luckily his family realised and came back for him and they all sailed away together. My favourite was Doris because he was a very brave and bold cat! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes cats or animals in general.
