But there are even more challenges ahead . . .
Reviews
My favourite character was Amina because she speaks about what she thinks is right and doesn't let people tell her what to do but at the same time, she loves her family dearly and is heartbroken when her mother and farther die.It was very emotional and I cried a few times. Still, I would degintly recommend it to a friend.

It was a lovely story about some girls who get separated from their family. It was heart warming, and in parts I almost cried! It has a nice end where the girls reunite with their sister and start to go home. I would recommend this book to anyone who doesn’t mind sad stories.

It was a brilliant book to do with a girl who loose almost everything she has and stories are the only thing to get her, her sister and other people through the hard times.

This book nearly brought me to tears. It was a book that explains that, when sometimes there is no hope there is always someone who has ambition that just something will be okay or that maybe there will be light at the end of the tunnel. I myself can say that the book was very touching and if i where to say i could put my self in the shoes of the character i would be lying to myself because what they where going through as nothing i could ever imagine happening to me. Judging by what happens in present day Syria i get the tingling sensation that this might be something that was actually happening or that has happened or is still happening in Syria. In the book there are 4 sisters with 1 brother, a mother and a father. The girls brother gets tired of the situation and he ends up joining an underground rebellion. There is a group called the Kwana that rule a certain part of Syria and they are making it hard for everyone to live. They started to find out that people wanted to rebel against them and said to every villager that if anyone was found hiding a rebellion in their house they would be killed, because the boy had joined it lead the Kwana to thinking their family was hiding him and they where trying to get the truth out of them the father told the story of why his son left and explained that he hadn't seen his son since then, they then started to beat him. One of the daughters even had to tell a lie that one of their brothers friends had told them the day before that their brother had joined a rebellion the Kwana then left the houses but they also left behind the dead body of their father now they are left on their own to bare the consequences of their sons own wrong doing what they don't know is how they are going to cope...

Warning: Anybody who doesn't like sad books stay well away from this one. Other than that, it's amazing, following Anita and her family's lives who are trying to survive under the rule of the unfair Kwana, and the sudden whim of an elder brother. Anita tells the most amazing stories!

Be warned: Looking at the stars is a very sad book and ends kind of sadly. Apart from that, I adore this book which looks into the Anita's world with her mum, dad, two sisters and older brother under the fierce rule of the Kwana army. It is actually based upon the many incidents in Syria, Iraq etc. ,and it comes with a fact interview with Jo Cotterhill the author at the back of the book. Although rather a long read, I love this book!
