The Terrible Thing That Happened to Barnaby Brocket
Oliver Jeffers, John Boyne
There’s nothing unusual or different about the Brocket family – and they’re keen to keep it that way. But when Barnaby Brocket comes into the world, it’s clear he’s anything but ordinary. To his parents’ horror, Barnaby defies the laws of gravity – and floats.
Soon, the Brockets decide enough is enough. The neighbours are starting to talk. They never asked for a weird, abnormal, floating child. Barnaby has to go . . .
Betrayed and frightened, Barnaby floats into the path of a very special hot air balloon – and so begins a magical journey around the world, with a cast of extraordinary new friends.

This was definitely in my top three favourite books!! It has an amazing storyline that had an ending which made me cry happy tears. The adventure and places that Barnaby went to were extraordinary and I would 100% recommend this book.

I liked all the people who helped him liked Liam and the circus people as they don't care that he can float. I would recommend it to people who are 7 or above as to is very funny.

The book is about a boy called Barnaby Brocket who lives in Sydney, but disobeys the law of gravity and floats around when he doesn't have something pulling him down to the ground. Barnaby's parents were very cruel to him because they didn't want to be famous and appear on every newspaper they looked at, so one day they took him out and his mother couldn't accept the exception so she cut the rucksack full of sand for him to fly away in the sky and here started his adventure. Barnaby met a lot of people that are different in many ways. The moral of this story: it's fine to be different. My favorite character is Barnaby Brocket for the reason that he bared forgiving his mother for ripping his rucksack and letting him fly in the sky. I would recommend this book to people aged 7 and up.

"The Terrible Thing that happened to Barnaby Brocket" was a funny but somewhat sad book. The story starts with The birth of Barnaby Brocket, which soon started to float up to the ceiling. The mother and father take pride in having a normal family, and felt extremely uncomfortable with a floating child. The mother ends up being so stressed that she ended up letting go of Barnaby, who was caught by some people in a hot-air balloon.

I thought this was very good because the character ended up in loads of different places and it explained about how people treat others that are different to them

An amazing packed adventure as you go off with Barnaby. A boy who floats, finds himself being the shame of his family. Even his parents dislike him. Higher and higher he floats, when will he stop? Great book for anyone who enjoys adventure - comedy books! :)

I loved this book because it showed that it is okay to be different and stand out from the crowd, exactly what Barnaby Brocket did! I also enjoyed this book because it tells you that if you try to be normal and turn your nose up at anything slightly different you will live a boring life. Alistair and Eleanor Brocket do normal jobs, have normal children, live in a normal house, on a normal street, in a normal town. Well that is until their youngest child comes into the world. You see Barnaby, the youngest of the Brocket children, is very strange (in a special way). I won't tell you how, you'll have to find out for yourself. I recommend this book to anyone aged 9 - 11

It's a touching and moving story. It also has a very important moral, beauty is in the eye of the beholder ( people may see you as weird but to your self you are completely normal. A very good read. I recommend readers over the age of 9 years old to read this book , as it is quite complicated and some readers just aged 9 won't understand it properly.
