Why does an escaped convict send a message to Dick in the middle of the night? And what can the strange message mean? This edition is part of a series of reissues to commemorate the birth of Enid Blyton, with original illustrations by Eileen Soper.

My favourite character is George! She is so stubborn! I think I would be Anne! Who would you be?

The Famous Five are on a four-day October hike - and although the scenery and weather are heavenly, the chances of an adventure aren't looking too promising! But then one stormy night Dick and Anne get lost and are forced to spend the night in a deserted barn, mistaking it for the farmhouse they were supposed to stay in. And during the dead of night, an escaped convict sends a mysterious message to Dick. What can the message mean? The police refuse to believe the Famous Five - so they must find out for themselves... Five on a Hike Together is one of my favourite Famous Five books out of the twenty-one in the series. There's no real need to read the books in order as long as you know who the Famous Five characters are and a little about their personalities as it does not refer to any other adventures they've had in the past, although this is book ten. This book has been delighting children since 1951! I have loved the Famous Five ever since 2015 and have read this book many times over the years, it being a treasured favourite. I would recommend Five on a Hike Together to all young adventurers and fans of Blyton 8+. This book was an amazing, gripping read from start to finish - and some of the countryside scenery near the beginning was also amazing! It was quite quickly paced too so no reader could ever get bored - quite the contrary, I doubt they will be able to put it down! Despite all the excitement of the book, it was not at all violent and good for reading aloud with the family as well as to yourself. If you enjoy this, Five Go to Demon's Rocks is a little similar in terms of its theme. Another of my favourites in the series was Five Go Adventuring Again, although this was a little different and set at George's home, Kirrin Cottage. Enjoy Reading! By Y, aged 12 "'Here's the message from Nailer,' said the voice. 'Two-Trees. Gloomy Water. Saucy Jane. And he says Maggie knows. He sent you this. Maggie's got one too.'" Who is 'Nailer'? What does the message mean? Who does the voice belong to? And what has 'Nailer' sent? Read the book to find out!
