As you might guess, the Baudelaire orphans only experience unfortunate events again and again and again. The orphans are sent to someone with an unpronounceable name, something along the lines of Mr Bfdhgghg, and are forced to work at a horrible wood mill. Klaus is hypnotised by one of Count Olaf's assistants in disguise but eventually they get everyone to believe that Shirley, the optician's assistant, is actually Count Olaf. In a normal book, Count Olaf would go to jail and they would live happily ever after, but this is not a normal book and Count Olaf will come back.

I thought this book was very good and extremely mysterious as it kept me guessing until the very end and I enjoyed the way Lemony Snickett narrated the story throughout! My favourite characters were the Baudelaires: Violet because she was always inventing things, Klaus, because he liked to read lots and lots of books and Sunny, because she was very funny in the way she spoke and the fact that she loved to bite things! I would definitley recommend this book for anyone who enjoys books that are both funny and mysterious!

Count Olaf comes later in the small novel which gives it countless suspense (get it).

The book was alright probably because I watched the series before I read this which I realise now was a massive mistake because I had ruined my enjoyment of reading this book that had many plot twists and action in it. However I would definitely recommend this book.

I liked this book but some Lemony Snicket books go on a bit, I recommend you read the whole series, it's a great mystery. I love the hypnosis in this book which is why I gave it 4/5.

This book was brilliant because it had some funny parts. I couldn't put the book down because it was so exciting. In this story the children had to survive the Lumber Mill where they had to scrape bark off of trees, work mechanical machines and wake up to clanging pots. It was miserable for them!
