Algy's Amazing Adventures in the Arctic
Kaye Umansky, Richard Watson (Illustrator)
Early Readers are stepping stones from picture books to reading books. A blue Early Reader is perfect for sharing and reading together. A red Early Reader is the next step on your reading journey.
Algy can’t wait to see what world is waiting for him at the bottom of the garden this time. But when his best friend Cherry shows up with her little brother Brad in tow, he is not impressed. Everyone knows small children just cry and break other people’s toys. What use is Brad going to be on an adventure?
But in a snowy Arctic world, where monsters lurk and giant footprints lead into the mountains, Algy discovers there might be more to Brad than meets the eye.

Sergeant Portobello Biscuits 27.08.2022

This was very descriptive and I liked the illustrations. I thought the emotions the characters were very clear when you looked at the, for example, when Dawn was throwing a temper tantrum, you could really see it in her expression.

Algy and Cherrie Smellie, together with her little brother Brad Smellie (what funny or weird name) went on an adventure in Algy's garden shed - where there was snow as if it was in the Arctic. They built a snowman and decided to explore around, but because it was cold they went to get their coats or jackets and left Brad in the shed to wait for them. However, when they returned - Brad was not in the shed; he had was missing and so they went on to search for him. They saw giant footprints of huge man-beasts - a Yeti - and followed the footprints until they found Brad - they heard him singing: "If ya happy an' ya know it, clappya hans", which he had also been singing when they were building the snowman. I liked Algy the most; though he doesn't like little children because of their tantrums and didn't want Brad to go with them on the Arctic adventure - he later liked Brad being around him. Oh yes, I would recommend to anyone - who loves reading about brave characters going on adventures!
