A classic children’s book from best-loved Bill’s New Frock author, former Children’s Laureate Anne Fine. Perfect for readers aged between 7 and 9 and fans of The Midnight Gang and Pamela Butchart’s Wigglesbottom Primary series.

It’s Ivan’s first day at his new school, and Boris is told to look after him, and translate for him, because Ivan can only speak Russian. After all, St Edmund’s is a civilized school. Only problem is, Ivan isn’t civilized. So when Ivan starts greeting people as `lowly shivering worms’, and asking for words in English like `crush’ and `mutilate’, Boris realises that he’s going to have his work cut out for him. And that’s just the start of the day . . .

Anne Fine’s fun school stories have been delighting children for more than 20 years, winning her awards such as the Smarties Book Award and Carnegie Medal along the way.

I chose this book because it was recommended by my school. I loved this book because it had lots of violence in it (joke - really I loved the pictures). Also I would like to have a word with the writers about why they thought putting death and violence in childrens’ nursery rhymes. My favourite character was Ivan.

My favourite part is when Ivan said rude comments about everyone and Boris translates it into something positive.

The story wasn't too good. Ivan and his brother was new at school and they got into loads of trouble.

This story is about a Russian boy called ' Ivan' going to a school in England. In that school everybody had to speak very politely but Ivan spoke very rude in Russian language but luckily for Ivan another boy in that school spoke Russian and he had translate what Ivan was saying but just to make sure Ivan wouldn't get into trouble he said that Ivan said some words that sounded very kind.

This is a good book but I didn't particularly like it for the following reasons: It is very short and therefore you can't get into it as it took me about an hour to read! It has no real plot or meaning and takes place over one day - again making it very short and not that interesting. I don't really know why she wrote it and what the purpose was. If you want a short read, however, this is a good option!

It is funny and it is about the two boys who became friends while saying strange and rood things to each other.
