The Railway Children
E. Nesbit
When Roberta, Peter and Phyllis’s father is imprisoned after being
falsely accused of spying, they and their mother have to leave
their comfortable London home to go and live in a small house in
the country. However, the children soon come to love the railway
that runs near their cottage, and have many adventures – stopping
a train from disaster, saving an infant and dog from a barge canal
on fire, and getting help when they find an injured boy in the
trail tunnel. When they befriend an Old Gentleman who regularly
takes the 9:15 train near their home, he helps them to prove their
father’s innocence, and the family is reunited at last.

This wnderful tale is most definately one of my all time favourites. Including adventure and action, truth and lies, struggles of life and the unpredictable twists, this is perfect for all those in search for a adventure tale with the normal stories of everyday life, along with the abnormal parts and its own interesting aspects. The life of the children changes unexpectedly as they suddenly have to move to the countryside without their father, who they soon find out has been framed for criminal activities he has not commited. Their mother atempts to earn a living by writing books andselling them. Later on, the children get to know the people out and about the railway station, which is situated nearby the cottage they all are residing in. But one day the lives of many people is in danger, as a tree has fallen across the track, blocking the trains path. It would certainly derail the train! As the children worriedly think what to do, they realise that the two girls are wearing red petticoats. They rip them apart and tie them to large detached branches of the fallen tree, and use them as flags to warn the train driver of upcoming trouble, who stops just in time... An old-fationed tale recommended to all.

I found the Railway Children a quite nice book because there are lots of children in it and although there are quite a few problems the children end up solving them all. One thing I might change about it though is the fact that most of the speech is in Old English which could possibly by a little confusing but if you read it with the rest of the text you can normally guess what it means, worse case you just need to flick to the glossary at the back of the book.

I recommend people to read this book as it is a very exciting , sad and happy story. In this book, Peter, Phyllis and Roberta's father is charged against a crime which he has not committed. The police arrests him and their mother hadn't the heart to tell them the truth. But Roberta got to know the the truth while unwrapping a parcel and reading the newspaper which was wrapped with the parcel. Will their father get out of prison ? Will they be able to keep in touch with him ? That remains for the reader to find out.

I think it is a very good book, It was a fiction book and my favourite person is Bobbie (Roberta) because she is kind, loving and soft with hurt people. She also is indeed very sorry when she ought to. I would definitely recommend it to all of my friends.

I thought this book was good. It is quite old fashioned so you get to know a lot about what life was back then. This book if fictional and my favourite character is Phylis because I think she is sweet and funny. I would recommend this book to someone else if they like old fashioned books!
