A captivating story. Beautifully told. An emotional rollercoaster. I felt the desperate struggle of the two main characters, Sean and Annie who face real hardships during their journey from Ireland to California, America in the mid 1800s. I was interested in the historical events such as the potato famine in Ireland and the gold rush.

Sean and Annie have one chance to escape the potato famine in Ireland, but they must leave their dying mother behind. They travel in search of their father, across rough seas, to a new land of hardship: America. There they busk on a city street, run a riverboat, join a wagon train across the prairies, and dig for gold. This is a great book to read or listen to and I recommend reading it.
