As Britain stands on the brink of the Second World War, young Willie Beech is evacuated from London to the safety of a country village, Little Weirwold. A frightened and neglected boy, he is billeted at the cottage where Tom Oakley, a grumpy recluse, has lived on his own for forty years.

A brilliant book of loss and friendship. There are some sad bits but on the whole it's an amazing book. It's about WW2 fiction, a boy called William is evacuated to the countryside, far away from his cruel mother and war-stricken London. He is happy with Tom, the man who takes him in, but then his mother summons him back to the city... 5 stars from me!

I liked Mister Tom because he was kind but this wasn’t a book I enjoyed much as it wasn’t my kind of book. I am glad I tried something different though.

Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian Review by Princess Orchid Moonbeam This was a fantastic book. It was full of suprises and tragedies but had a happy ending. My favourite character was William because he turned out to be a happy young boy. Everyone should read this book!

This is so sad! It is so terrible at some points I felt like crying. It is that bit about the baby. Poor willie.

I would recommend this book for ages 7+. It is full of ups and downs. The book is about a little boy named Willlie who is evacuated to Mister Tom's house. When he arrives there he is shy but when the months go by, he makes new friends. But when he gets sent back to his cruel mother, will they ever see each other again

It is sad and happy. I love learning about ww2 & ww1. My favourite bits were the really sad bits, like when Will had to go back to his mother or when Zach dies.

William beach is an evacuee who comes from a very religious background. As his mother believes he should be beaten if he does anything to god. but when World War Two starts William is evacuated to the countryside where Mr Tom Oakley takes him in together they build up each others confidence and care for each other. Maybe the country isn't a cold cruel place afterwards?
