GUARD DOG_ THE
DICK KING-SMITH
There are six of them in the pet shop window – five pedigree puppies and a scruffy little mongrel with a grand ambition – to be a guard dog. The others laugh at him. How can he ever hope to be bought to guard someone’s home? Dick King-Smith was named Children’s Author of the Year in 1991.

It was sad at the beginning but I was happy that at the end the guard dog had found a owner

I thought this book was okay. I really liked the illustrations by Jocelyn Wild. It was about a dog who was small, scruffy and made a terrible noise. He got teased by the other dogs because he wanted to be a guard dog when somebody decided they wanted him. Somebody did decide they wanted him, but when he upset the cat, they took him to the dog's home. Do you think he becomes a guard dog or will he be killed on his fourteenth day? Read this book and find out!
