A heart-warming story of kindness, courage and love in all its forms from the award-winning author of Me, My Dad and the End of the Rainbow. Perfect for 9+ readers and fans of Elle McNicoll, Lisa Thompson and Onjali Rauf. ‘A huge, shining kaleidoscope of joy’– L.D. Lapinski, author of THE STRANGEWORLDS TRAVEL AGENCY Bea’s family are happy. Like, really happy. Like, kind of gross but also cute happy. So when they visit London Pride together and have the ultimate day out, Bea doesn’t think her family could possibly get any happier. But a year later, a grey cloud is following Bea’s family around. Dad has passed away, and without him around they have no choice but to pack their bags and move to the countryside to live with Gran. With Bea’s big sister, Riley, taking the news hard, Bea will do anything to cheer her up. So with the help of new friends, The Secret Sunshine Project is formed – Bea’s plan to bring Pride to the countryside and a smile back to Riley’s face. There’s just one teeny tiny problem – the village mayor. A grumpy old woman who’s on a mission to rain on Bea’s parade . . . Praise for The Secret Sunshine Project: ‘Warm-hearted and cheering, with a dash of sparkle’ – Guardian ‘Vibrant, funny and wise – a book to savour’ – Kiran Millwood Hargrave, author of THE GIRL OF INK AND STARS 'Funny, fresh and full of heart' – Katie Tsang, co-author of DRAGON MOUNTAIN   ‘Wonderful, warm-hearted stories full of characters to care about’ – Andy Shepherd, author of THE BOY WHO GREW DRAGONS   ‘Fizzes with positive, feel-good energy’ – Steven Butler, author of THE NOTHING TO SEE HERE HOTEL   ‘Utter sunshine in book form! This is a bouncy summery book for 9-12 year olds and I loved the read. There was a unputdownable feel about it and it was fun to read.

My fav person in this book is Bea:she is determined to make her sister happier by bringing pride to her.All of Beas new friends are really supportive of her even though she only met them through summer. They find a drag queen (Buttercup) and he helps them create a pride of their own in the town

This is a book that tells a story about a 12 year old called Bea, with friends, fight her way through discrimination and prejudice and set up the Secret Sunshine Project to bring back her sister’s happiness. Would recommend.

I enjoyed reading this book because of Bea, who is a really fun character. I also think she is really brave for pulling through when times are tough. On the way she also makes some fantastic friends which help her on her mission. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about being different and acceptance.

I liked the rainbow coloured edge to the pages and the colourful cover. I liked this book and it was a bit harder for me to read but I wanted to read it.

It was good. I like the book becuase it ends as a happy ending about two sisters. I liked Bea the most. becuase two sisters go on holiday for the summer to a place they don't like and at the end they actually like it. I would reccommend it to a friend.

i really liked this book because it had lots of different people in it. The author clearly respects people's differences. my favourite character is Bea because she is determined to make her sister Riley happy. she is kind, always positive and tries to find a way to make things write if they are wrong.
