I’m the Cat in the Hat, and I hear that you wish, to go down to the sea, and visit the fish.” And so Dr. Seuss’ famous feline plunges young readers from the sunny surface waters to the deepest ocean trenches in search of an amazing array of marine creatures.

This title forms part of a series of books that takes an off-beat look at natural history through a fun combination of Seussian rhymes and zany illustrations. Aimed at early readers – from four to seven years old – the books are designed to bridge the gap between concept books written for preschoolers and more formal non fiction titles that require fluent reading skills. By presenting the facts in a lively and rhythmic manner, they provide the critical foundation upon which complex facts and ideas can eventually be built.

I think this book was a mixture of fiction and factual. Fictional characters and story but real facts about fish. I would recommend it to my friends.

I liked reading about the different parts of the sea. The best bit was the giant squid and the whale fighting. I would not like to live on the bottom of the sea because it to too dark and cold.

This is a fun and entertaining book it is a short story but still very factual in some parts. Yet this story is still funny at the same time. I loved this book and would recommend it to some one who likes short books.

The Cat takes Jane and Dick under the sea in his Glubber submarine. The Cat tells them that most fish have slimy scales, and use their gills to sift out the air in the water. Big fish eat smaller fish and so on, as a food chain. There are five zones in the sea. The top Sunny Zone is where most fish live and sharks, jelly fish, manatees, octopus and whales. Also dolphins who use echolocation to find there way and spot other fish in the water. Lower down in the Twilight Zone sperm whales hunt giant squid. Deeper still is the Dark Zone where fish look stranger and some hand their own light. Still lower at the Abyss the creatures have legs so they do not get stuck in the mud like the tripod fish. At the lowest trenches, vents spout hot water near the earth’s crust. Here clams and tube worms live. After the trip the Cat takes them back to the beach for sunshine. I liked this book because it tells you about lots of different fish.

I think it's mysterious at the bottom of the sea and as you get deeper into the water you get into the abyss and it's SO hot because you're getting closer to the centre of the Earth. I like the bit where the Cat in the Hat is teaching them the different parts of the Herring fish.
