October and her dad live in the woods. They know the trees and the
rocks and the lake and stars like best friends. They live in the woods,
and they are wild. And that’s the way it is. Until the year October
turns eleven. That’s the year October rescues a baby owl. It’s the year
Dad falls out of the biggest tree in their woods. The year the woman
who calls herself October’s mother comes back. The year everything
changes.

This book was amazing and took to my heart. October -my favourite character- is wild and I love that about her and when she has to live in London, away from the woods that she has lived in for her whole life, she stll finds some way to be wild(by searching the River Thames for lost items to complete her many stories she has created). I would recommend this to anyone.

I was inspired to read ‘October, October’ after I had read another book written by Katya Balen - ‘Foxlight’. The story follows the life of a young girl named October. The story begins with October living a unique, idyllic life in the woods with her father. They live in a self-sufficient manner, connected to nature, away from the modern world. On her birthday, her mother comes to try to talk to her and an accident happens that sends October's father into hospital. This forces October to leave the only life she has ever known and move to London to live with her estranged mother. The transition from the woods to the city is jarring for October. She struggles to adapt to the fast-paced, noisy environment and misses the tranquility of the forest. At the same time, she learns to navigate the complexities of her relationship with her mother, a woman she barely knows. As October finds her footing in this new world, she also discovers more about herself, her family, and the meaning of home. October, October is a poignant, beautifully crafted novel that will resonate with readers of all ages. It is a story of growth, change, and the enduring power of love and nature. Katya Balen has created a memorable character in October, whose journey of self-discovery is both touching and inspiring. This book is a must-read for anyone who has ever felt the pull of the wild or the pangs of growing up. It reminds us that no matter where we are, we can always find our way back to ourselves.

What a terrible book. I absolutely hated it! October was a mean, devious main character and I couldn't find anyone likeable apart from daisy! And she's hardly in it at all! Shame I couldn't give this book NO stars!

I think that it was a bit sad that her father had to go to the hospital an to stay with her mum in the city.
