I liked how Matteo teaches Sophie how to go onto the rooftop.

I loved this book so I recommend it to everyone especially people who love crazy adventures. The way Katherine Rundell writes her books makes it feel so real and I found it hard to put down. Mainly, I loved the idea of kids secretly living on rooftops by themselves and it makes you think that anything is possible and you shouldn't ever ignore a possible!

A baby girl was found by Charles Maxim, who saved her at sea. There was a ship that sank, and Charles found a baby and rescued her. He named her Sophie and kept her being her guardian. A welfare agent called Miss Eliot has been telling Charles that he was not looking after her as he should have been. Sophie was eager to find her mum. Since the shipwreck, she has lost her mum and now has to find her. Charles and Sophie moved to France to prevent Sophie from being taken to an orphanage. Since they moved, Sophie felt familiar with this place. She visited a shop where they sell cellos -- Sophie had a memory of her mum playing the cello. She and Charles tried to go to the police to see if they had any folders of the musicians from the ship. Nothing worked, but Sophie didn't stop trying to find her mother. Every night, Sophie went up onto the roof. Once she saw a boy jumping from roof to roof, and met him the next day. His name was Matteo. Each day she learnt something new about him. She saved some food every dinner time for him to eat. Once she told him about her missing mother, he said he could help. She told him everything she knew about her -- even her name, Vivienne Vert. Matteo got some friends to help with this mission. Sophie found out that their names were Anastasia, Safi and Gerard. In the night, they all gathered at the police station. They hung down the roof till they saw the folder room. Sophie and Matteo looked in each folder until they found the right one. But it was a man. There weren't any women musicians. Suddenly Sophie recognised some parts: they looked a bit like her, and the clothes were different. Underneath the picture, it said that they survived. Out of nowhere, Sophie heard music. She ran out of the building and followed the sound of music. Right in front of her, she saw her mother! This was all Sophie dreamed of.

It’s about this girl, called Sophie. She was on the Queen Mary as a baby, and when the boat was sinking she was rescued by someone called Charles. They had a life together and he was like a father, but Sophie still hoped her mum was alive. This lady didn’t want that to happen, and didn’t think she was living a good life, so she questioned them about some stuff, but they didn’t pass the “test” - Sophie got her cello and they went to France. The story ahead is a story about a brave little girl.

I really enjoyed this book. It was recommended by a teacher at school. My favourite character is Sophie as she shows resilience and determination throughout. I enjoy reading books that are for children and young people, as I can then recommend them to the class I work with.
