Fig Swims the World
Lou Abercrombie
Fig Fitzsherbert is good at a lot of things: making lists, playing the piano, advanced mathematics. But it’s never quite enough for her high-flying mother, who every New Year’s Day sets Fig an impossible resolution. So one year, Fig decides to set her own challenge instead: she’s going to swim her way round the world. There’s just one tiny problem … Fig can’t swim. Taking it one length at a time, Fig embarks on the adventure of a lifetime. But with her mother closing in, will she be able to keep her head above water and complete her challenge? A quirky coming-of-age story, perfect for fans of Katy Birchall, GEEK GIRL and SUPER AWKWARD.

This is an adventurous and thrilling debut novel by Lou Abercrombie. Review: This book is about a girl who has an extremely overprotective mother who always chooses her daughter’s New Years Resolution and never lets her do her own thing. This time, Fig, her daughter wants to set her own New Year’s Resolution - which is to swim the world. There are two small problems; 1. Her mum Mulba won’t let her, 2. She can’t swim. She is determined not to let his stop her… This story has a lot of lists and graphs including Instagram and WhatsApp messages. I would recommend this book for girls and boys aged 9 to 12. The only downside to this book is that it does not have many juicy words and cliff hangers. I liked the plot because it is very creative and enjoyed reading the messages and lists illustrating the book. The story personally relates to the author, since she loves swimming and doing deep sea diving and exploring the ocean. The moral of this story is that you can do anything if you put your mind to it and nothing can stop you!
