Step into a world of secrets, folklore and illusions, where nothing is as it seems and magic is at play…
Madame Augustina Pinchbeck, travels the country conjuring the spirits of dearly departed loved ones… for a price. Whilst her ability to contact ghosts is a game of smoke and mirrors, there is real magic behind her tricks too – if you know where to look.
Through a magical trade, she persuades children to part with precious objects, promising to use her powers to help them. But Pinchbeck is a deceiver, instead turning their items into enchanted Cabinets that bind the children to her and into which she can vanish and summon them at will.
When Pinchbeck captures orphan Leander, events are set into motion that see him and his new friends Charlotte and Felix, in a race against time to break Pinchbeck’s spell, before one of them vanishes forever…

Doctor Neptune Vesuvius 15.08.2020

It had a lot of action and was a real page turner. I like that it included the perspectives of the main characters in a chapter. I liked Charlotte best because on the outside she was quite mean but she was very kind at heart. I would recommend to people because it was absolutely brilliant.

My favourite character is Pinchbeck’s ex-husband, Edmund Pellar because he seems so determined to bring Pinchbeck down. I liked that you never knew what was going to happen because I never saw a way out of Pinchbeck’s spell. I’d recommend this to someone who likes suspense

this is the best book i have read for a very long time. it is definitely 100% five stars. it is very mysterious and spooky and mythical and frightening. when i read it, it gave me a variety of emotions, like fear for the children in the book with this evil woman called 'Madame Pinchbeck' and laughter of what funny and mean insults that Charlotte says to Leander.
