Anna at War
Helen Peters
""Moving and utterly enthralling"" – Lissa Evans
As life for German Jews becomes increasingly perilous, Anna’s parents put her on a train leaving for England. But the war follows her to Kent, and soon Anna finds herself caught up in a web of betrayal and secrecy. How can she prove whose side she’s on when she can’t tell anyone the truth? But actions speak louder than words, and Anna has a dangerous plan…
A brilliant and moving wartime adventure from the author of Evie’s Ghost.Cover illustration by Daniela Terrazzini.
""Because I believed in Anna, her war came alive for me. Her struggle, her bravery, all those things were completely real and I read the book overnight, unable to put it down. Magnificent, brilliant, heartbreaking."" – Fleur Hitchcock, author of Murder in Midwinter
""A fast-paced adventure, whose elegant prose and cliffhanger chapters should keep even less confident readers gripped to the thrilling end."" – Emily Bearn, Daily Telegaph
""It’s a tale of bravery and loss that Helen Peters (Evie’s Ghost) sets out with the light touch that only rigorous research allow… Peters tells Anna’s story of escape with great humanity, and this novel is an excellent way to whet young appetites for classics such as When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit by Judith Kerr and Carrie’s War by Nina Bawden."" – Alex O’Connell, The Times, Children’s Book of the Week
""Anna at War is a gripping, moving piece of historical fiction."" – Imogen Russell Williams, Guardian
""Helen Peters balances adventure and intrigue with this emotional coming-of-age story."" – Emma Dunn and Sarah Mallon, Scotsman

Honestly, incredible. I really felt like I was Anna and was in tears when she got the news that her parents had died in a concentration camp.

This book is so so so Amazing! I literally say that with all my books, but Anna at war is the best When seeing this book, I was quite unsure, but I am getting into thicker books now, so I picked it up. I didn't read it for a while, as you know, I was reading another book, and Well, I didn't want to start a new one without finishing the other one yet. Anyway, once I actually picked it up, I was Enthralled. The saddness, terror, emotion, happiness, it was just so amazingly drawing, and I Just Couldnt Put It Down. Honestly, this book is so, so amazing! I keep saying that, but IT IS amazing! Anna. She is the main character, the best character in my opinion. Her bravery, spirit, and calmness, even when there is a crisis, like when she discovers a German spy in her foster family's barn... Lastly, I want to thank Helen Peters, the author of this book. You have worded it perfectly, and I love your books for younger readers too, like a sheepdog called sky. This book is about a girl on an Epic journey, because of the war. I'm not going to tell you anything more than that. Please read this book, I rate it much, much more than 5/5 by the way! Thank you for reading.

I really recommend this book as it was like short snippets of Anna’s life which created one big picture. This book also allows people to have an understanding of how jewish children felt during WW2.

My favourite character was Anna because she travelled from Germany to England by the Kindertransport when she got there she was adopted by a foster family during the war the army came to the park near there House .She finds a sneaky naiz soldier Hiding in the barn so she helps the army to capture the German soldier to do this she throws his rifle out the stable window when he was planning to shoot the prime minister. I would recommend this book to children age 7 to 18 .
