Reviews

I loved this book I would recommend it to people who are either interested in history and understanding the Holocaust. I have only great comments except the fact that the author killed off one of the bravest characters in the story. That almost made me shut the book and throw it in the bin! But I kept reading and eventually I got back into it. The story is very sad and heartbreaking but it is important to know what happened to Jewish/Disabled/Romani people. The only thing I found a bit unnecessary is the last part where she is reading the newspaper. It was a bit corny but I understand that the author wants to get this important message across. As a whole I adored this book and I would read it a million times!

This was an amazing book. If you have read 'Wonder' then you will know who Juian is. If you haven't, he's a bully to Auggie, who is the main character. But now, he wants to know all about his grandmother's life in the second world war for a school project. His grandmother was a Jewish girl who had to escape from the Nazis. She befriends Julien, who can't walk properly and who everyone looks down on. Julien and his family help hide Julian's grandmother, even though they could get into serious trouble, and even die for it. Read the book to find out more! My favourite character was Julian's grandmother and Julien because they were both very brave. I would recommend this book to children(and adults)who like adventure, thrill and horror. The age group that should read this book would be 8+.

This book was a fictional graphic novel based on the true happenings of a French, jewish girl in world war 2 [but this girl is fictional]. Many fell in love with R.J.Palacio's story-Wonder-so Julian [Aggie's class bully] comes as a familiar face. At a new school, he has to write an essay on someone he knows he chooses his French grandmare. A tale of emotion and horrible events unfold drawing a tear to anyones eye. Julian soon realises his grandmare's childhood is very different to his is. I would definitely recommend this to someone else because of the deepness and emotion this graphic novel brings alight. People can truly connect to the characters and the book. Even thought this book is a quicker read [probably based on the graphic novel format] it is a book that leaves you with deeper feelings.

I really enjoyed it and it was amazing and was full of adventure my favourite character was the main character because lots of things happened to her in her life. It is based on Julian’s grandmother (Julian from wonder) and his grandmother was in World War II when she was a schoolgirl she had to run away because she was Jewish but a person from her school hit her in a barn but no one liked him. But you should read it it is a chapter book but in the form of comic if you like Tintin you would like this and if you like Wonder you would like this as well. You can find this book in the library or you can try and find it in a bookshop but I think the library would be better just in case you don’t like it. Have fun reading!

I would rate this a two. This is only because it was a bit sad but still quite good. I like how the author tells the story of the grandma in the second world war as in homework. My favourite character was Julian because I like how he was named after Julien, who helped her in the war to hide and still have food and drink. I would recommend this to people who are ok with emotional things.

This book is a graphic novel by the author of Wonder. It is in the Wonder series and tells the story of Julian’s grandmother’s childhood living in hiding from the Nazis in France. Sara is a Jewish teenager at school in France in 1943 when the Nazis take over, round up all of her family and other Jewish friends and put them in a truck never to be seen again. Sara hides in the Belltower and then a boy from her school that she had never talked to offers to help her. She then spends a year hidden in his families barn. I liked this book because I liked the friendship and romance of the characters, whilst also learning about the Holocaust. My favourite character was Julien, the boy who hides Sara. I liked him because he was the only one who tried to save Sara, even though she had not always been kind to him and even though it put his own life in danger. He was a good friend and a kind, generous person. My favourite part of the book was where Julien takes Sara to the forest. This book was very moving and sad. What happened to the Jewish children and their families was really terrible. I found it upsetting when Vincent beat up Julien and supported the Nazis. This book made me think how important it is to be kind so that this would never happen again. I would recommend this book to people who have read the rest of the Wonder series as you will learn more about Julian and also to people who are learning about World War 2.

This book is for people who like to learn about World War II. I think this book is for children maybe eight/nine and up because there is a lot of violence and you see a bit of blood in this book where a character gets shot and also beaten up for being disabled but, of course, this is not the authors opinions. There is also a bit of threat and negative language in this book but if you're fine with that, by all means, read this wonderful book because it is really teaches you what it is like in the olden days and it could be life-changing for some people. I would recommend to someone who likes learning about the olden days and World War II.

Julian's Grandmother has a story to tell about France, War and the class 'Auggie' , Torteu. As a victim and a Jew in the second World War, Julian's Grandmother went into hiding on the day the children went. Then, helped by the class 'Auggie', a young boy with Polio called Julian, she survived the whole thing. There is another side to every person. Everyone should read this inspirational graphic novel. To make sense of this you should read Wonder and The Julian Chapter beforehand. #choosekind #wonder #rjpalacio
