The brilliant new book from Megan Rix, telling the story of Florence Nightingale through the eyes of her young ward. Florence loved cats, and had many during her lifetime. This is the perfect introduction to the Lady with the Lamp for young children, told with warmth, humour and adorable animals. Summer 1888: In a fancy house in London, a kitten called Scamp escapes through an open window and finds himself lost in the middle of the city. Across Hyde Park, a young girl called Beth is marching with thousands of other girls to protest the working conditions in the Bryant and May match factories. When Beth stumbles across the tiny kitten she finds that he belongs to none other than Miss Florence Nightingale, who is now indebted to Beth for returning her beloved pet. So begins an unlikely friendship between the great lady, her mischievous kitten, and Beth the penniless orphan. But when Beth's sister Iris is struck down with illness in one of the poorest parts of London, can Beth, Scamp and Miss Nightingale find a way to save her before it's too late?

I recommend this book to any rebel girls because a girl called Beth goes to a protest to stop girls working in match factories. My favourite character was the little kitten scamp. He's the mischievous one in the story. I thought it was very admirable.

This is about Florence nightingale. It shows how generous she was. I recommend this book for all historical people. It tells a story without meaning to.

I loved this book because you get to find out about Florence Nightingales life as well as it being fiction. I would recommend it to 7 to 11 year old children.

This book is about two sisters Beth and Iris who are very poor, until Beth meets Miss Florence Nightingale. Can Beth and Iris make a better future for themselves with the help of Miss Nightingale? I enjoyed this book because the sisters never forget about each other and keep trying hard even though things are tough. I would recommend it for people who enjoy stories about animals and adventures in the olden days.

I think it was great. It was perfect for me because it had just the right amount of everything! I think that it is a bit of fiction and non-fiction because quite a lot is factual like it is about Florence Nightingale the famous nurse, but also a lot about fiction so I am not sure. My favorite character was Beth because she is the main character, is really nice and is caring. It interested me because it looked really good and I have never read one of Megan Rix's books. Yes, I would recommend it to someone else because it is brilliant.

This is a fiction book which is a great adventure story going back in time to after the 2 world war where Florence is a lot older than she was in the war.

I really liked this book as it was about Florence Nightingale and I've been learning about her at school, I didn't know Florence had so many pet cats. I learnt that Phossy Jaw was a disease that people working in match factories got and that their was a tax on matches in Victorian times.

I liked this book because it is about Florence Nightingale and her cats and I like cats. My favorite character is a girl called Beth because she helped Florence Nightingale find her cat Scamp. It's a fictional story based on the real life character Miss Florence Nightingale.
